The Interactive and Automatic punching routines in SMP/IS allow fabricators to excel in today's competitive marketplace and meet customers' needs by eliminating routine NC programming work.
Interactive Punching
The interactive punching routine gives the programmer maximum control over the process while providing specific time-saving tools such as:
Mirror Tooling will recreate a series of hits placed on one side of a part to a position on another side, about either a vertical or horizontal axis: Punch once and use Mirror to repeat in the new location.
Profile Hit Macro allows you to save an edge (external or internal) and its associated hits as a "hit macro." When this same "edge profile" is subsequently recognized, the hits comprising the macro will automatically be placed by SMP.
AutoPunch

AutoPunch saves time, speeds production, and eliminates routine NC programming work.
Intelligent Program
The program will evaluate the part to be programmed and automatically select the appropriate tooling from that on hand. Then, within seconds, AutoPunch will perform the punching and hit sequencing for all of the holes, cutouts, and edges.
Saves Time
The part program is then displayed to the programmer, who may alter it if desired, or simply grid the program on a sheet and have the SMP/IS software output the machine-specific NC data file. Either way, the NC programmer will have less basic programming work, allowing for concentration on special applications.
Speeds Production
With AutoPunch, modification of tool sizes and hits is handled easily and quickly. It greatly speeds the production of NC programs and enables parts to be produced much faster, more accurately, and economically.
Maximizes Machine Performance
While in AutoPunch, the NC programmer may add or remove tabs, change tool selections, or alter hit sequences without affecting other aspects of the part program. AutoPunch automatically adjusts to these changes by selecting which hits to set back from internal corners, further minimizing the total number of hits and avoiding the potential for double hits. By eliminating double hits, you instantly increase machine efficiency.
Maintains Tab Placement
Through Associativity in SMP/IS, tabs, offsets, and hit sequences are maintained, even when an alternate tool is selected.
No Need to Edit Code
Through our unique Associativity feature, the NC program is saved with the graphical part program to facilitate automatic program updates when the 3D model is changed.
Increases Productivity
Using AutoPunch increases productivity by eliminating routine NC programming time, automatically adjusting to tooling changes, providing easier methods for modifications, and making more time available for part design and production.
